I agree with Adam Trimingham that Stanmer Park is a wasted opportunity (The Argus, August 19).

In the past, I used to walk along the road through the village with my children from where we could see cows, horses, pigs and farm machinery. It was a good place to go in wet weather when the footpaths were too muddy, or with a push chair on level ground, and in high winds as it is comparatively sheltered.

The big, listed barn could be converted into workshops, bringing more activity to the village for both residents and visitors.

As Adam says, Stanmer Village would make an ideal city farm, as would the National Trust’s Sedlescombe Farm, where there are wonderful old buildings, ducks on the pond, a few chickens roaming around, some lovely old bits of farm machinery and a donkey wheel. How about some pigs, cows and horses? Then it would be an even better place to take my grandchildren.
