A man was left with a broken neck after he was attacked in his own home.
Brighton Magistrates’ Court was told the victim was beaten with bats and a hammer after a gang smashed their way into his basement flat in Marine Parade, Brighton on the night of August 23.
The court was told the the man was head-butted and punched by his attackers, who were wearing stockings over their faces and plastic gloves.
The victim, who has not been named, suffered a fractured neck, cuts and bruises.
Four men have been charged with aggravated burglary and possessing offensive weapons.
They are alleged to have been armed with bats, a hammer and a monkey wrench.
Peter Byrne, 26, and his brother Liam Byrne, 24, both of Romsey Close, Brighton, Joshua Gordon, 22, who lives in a hostel in North Road, Brighton, and Amir Mahrouyan, 20, of Ashmore Close, Peacehaven, did not enter pleas to the charges.
They were remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on November 13.
There was no application for bail.
