Got up at 7am with no aims other than getting to work by 8ish. Coffee? Check. Shower? Check. Shave? Um, what?
My watch performs alarm clock duty and sits on my bedside table thingy overnight. I used to leave it on my wrist, but discovered that I couldn't hear the damned thing if my arm was under the covers. And no, it doesn't have a vibrate function and that's not why my arm sometimes goes under the covers.
So there it was when I got up. It is waterproof to 50m, but I didn't put it on. I got out of the shower and left the bathroom to demist. 'Must remember to put my watch on,' I thought as I sat down with the second coffee. Returned to bathroom to clean teeth, then to bedroom to get dressed. 'Ooh, don't forget your watch,' I told myself. I actually do talk to myself in this manner. Am trying to revive 'polari', perhaps more on that some other time.
Packed, unpacked and repacked work bag. Just to be sure. Returned for a final time to the bedroom to make the bed, open the curtains and check the windows were closed. 'And put your watch on, you.'
Went to work without my watch.
To cut a long story short, I then cycled home (I left my bike at work last time because the wind was blowing the wrong way, if you remember) so I could cycle commute for the rest of the week and spend no more on public transport fares this week.
I am in the London office tomorrow. O. M. G.
