I'm a 37-year-old husband and father of two gorgeous boys. All very normal apart from the fact I suffer from depression.
In 2008 I became very ill. My old enemy the 'Big D' paid me a visit, sunk its claws in and my world started to fall apart. I wasn't able to work, I needed help and at times I felt useless.
Over time things did get better, I was able to do some volunteer work as part of my rehabilitation and the time soon arrived when I was able to think about a new career.
Most of my working life had been spent in sales, working to ridiculous targets and being hollered at for not closing a deal. With the help of my family we agreed it wasn't perhaps the best career to go back into. By chance I stumbled across a BTEC media course being run by City College and decided to give it a go. As it turned out I had a bit of a talent for film production and passed with a distinction.
The course gave me the skills and confidence that I needed to move forward and things moved on quickly from there. In June 2009 I teamed up with another local film maker and together we set up a production company 'Blockhouse Films Limited'.
It was during a meeting with one of our clients, 'ZT Fight Skool' of Hove, that we asked the question: 'How long would it take to get fight fit?' ZT owner Sol Gilbert replied 'six months'. After talking a bit more we reckoned we'd need a middle aged, unhealthy man to whip into shape. Cue me volunteering for the job! So I agreed and he's personally taking me from unfit to fight fit and in six months, I hope, I'll be ready for a Pro MMA (mixed martial arts) fight. Follow my progress here.
