With Table Mountain, safaris and the upcoming World Cup, South Africa is a very different place to Brighton.
But Jason Peters is preparing for a dream holiday in the country after winning a competition - and he will even become the face of tourism in the country.
The 36-year-old jumped at the chance to become the first “adventure ambassador” for South Africa’s tourist board.
Jason, who works for Pure Associates in Brighton, saw an advert for the competition online and decided to enter.
After making it through the early stages, the keen wildlife photographer faced a gruelling assessment by the judging panel.
It included giving a presentation while climbing over chairs to prove he would be able to produce a video diary while taking part in a range of exciting activities on a ten-day trip.
These include ostrich-riding, safaris, bungee jumping, paragliding, mountain biking and surfing.
But for Jason filming wildlife in South Africa is no problem – he's already done it on a month-long film course in the sun-soaked country in 2006.
He said: “I have been to South Africa before but all the activities I'll be doing on this trip were things I could not afford to do then.
“I'm so excited to be able to go back and do them all.
“I've always had an interest in wildlife photography and filming and this is the perfect opportunity for me to improve and get myself out there.
“South Africa is such a diverse country. It has deserts, tropical rainforests and an amazing coastline.
“That is why it is so popular with adventurous people and with film crews both for wildlife photography and for feature films as the landscape is so varied.”
The competition's organisers said it was Jason's enthusiasm for the great outdoors that set him apart from the hundreds of other entrants.
Lebo Mokhesi, from South African Tourism, said: “It was a difficult decision to make, with more than 300 entrants and a superb shortlist which offered us a variety of characters to choose from.
“In the end, it was Jason's incredible enthusiasm for South Africa that won through - his passion for wildlife and adventure sits perfectly with the South African culture and we are very excited to hear all about his trip on his return to the UK.”
As well as his video diary Jason will also share his experiences in an internet blog at www.southafrica.net.
