The secret of man-powered flight is once more being explored off Worthing Pier this weekend.
Competitors taking part in the Worthing Birdman are either aiming to scoop the £30,000 top prize for breaking the 100m barrier on their self-designed contraptions or hoping to raise laughs and money for charity in the fun competition, which takes place on Sunday. The Birdman competition is divided into three categories, the Leonardo Da Vinci class for self-built contraptions, the Condor class for modified hang-gliders, and the Kingfisher class for the fun flyers who just want to throw themselves off the pier.
Setting the benchmark distance tomorrow will be former G4 star Jonathan Ansell.
This year spectators will be able to vote for their favourite fun flyer by texting the word Birdman and the number of their favourite to 87222. Texts cost 25p, visit www.worthingbirdman.co.uk for more details.
* Flights start 12.30pm to 2.30pm Saturday, 1pm to 3.30pm Sunday, free. Call 01903 203252.
