CLOSE: Sussex 326-3 (97)
Goodwin will have to wait for his hundred. Shameless time-wasting tactics by the home side meant we only had one more over on top of the day's allocation and Goodwin will resume on 96 with Hopkinson 7. Great day for Sussex who are in a position to dictate terms from here. I;m back in the morning but check the main site later for a full report and reaction on day one.
WICKET: Sussex 313-3 (94)
Nash goes for 157. Not a great ball from Thomas - wide half-volley but Nash steered it low to Suppiah who took a good catch at backward point. Shame he couldn't have seen it through to the end of the day but a magnificent effort nonetheless. He faced 284 balls and hit 23 fours, batting for 5 hrs 47 mins. Goodwin is 94 and Carl Hopkinson has got off the mark with a lovely four through mid on.
Sussex 290-2 (90)
Career best now for Nash who is 142 not out, having just clipped Thomas majestically through mid-wicket for four. To still be timing it as well as that at this stage of the day is some feat. Goodwin is 86.
Sussex 269-2 (87)
New ball belatedly taken with Willougby and Thomas sharing it but two slips and no one else within 30 yards of the bat as Somerset go on the defensive. Nash is 132 and Goodwin 77, comfortably his highest score of the season.
Sussex 245-2 (75)
Banks back into the attack and he's gone for three fours in that over which cost 18 runs. Goodwin's lovely sweep for his eighth four brought up his 50 from 72 balls. Nash has steamed on to 127 and his career-best 134 now in his sights. Somerset desperate for the new ball.
Sussex 213-2 (72)
Well played Nashy, that's his second successive Championship hundred. It's not been easy on a slow pitch but he's hit 15 fours and faced 195 balls so far. Goodwin is 45 and the stand is now worth 71 in 23.
TEA: Sussex 192-2 (66)
Another good session for Sussex. Nash will resume on 98 and Goodwin is 32.
Sussex 188-2 (61)
Ironic cheers from the crowd here as the leggie Waller is finally brought on. We've had Banks and Suppiah recently but this stand is developing nicely. Nash is 98 and Goodwin 28 and looking like the Goodwin of old.
WICKET: Sussex 142-2 (50)
Misjudgement by Joyce costs him his wicket after a stand of 98 in 31 overs as he misses a straight ball from Trego he was trying to work down the leg side. Out for 37 when he was looking so secure out there. Another chance in this over as Goodwin, on nought, is spilled by the diving Kieswetter down the leg side of De Bruyn. Goodwin off the mark with a boundary while Nash is 81.
Sussex 131-1 (47)
47 runs in 14 overs since lunch represents good progress by Nash and Joyce, now 79 and 31 respectively. Not sure why Langer has persisted with his two medium-pacers. Trego is bowling a good wicket-to-wicket line but every now and then he strays down leg and is put away. Half chance when Nash was on 64 as he toe-ended an edge which dropped just short of Trescothick at slip. Not even a half chance really when I think about it, Banger might have caught it if his arms had been ten feet long I suppose.
Sussex 100-1 (36)
Somerset have turned to the medium pace of Trego and De Bruyn since lunch but no alarms so far for Nash (59) and Joyce (23). Langer has plenty of bowling options. He's now used six of them and we still haven't seen the young leggie Max Waller.
LUNCH: Sussex 84-1 (33)
Suppiah tried for a couple of overs of slow left-arm before lunch but it has been Sussex's morning. Nash got to his 50 in the last over before lunch from 99 balls with nine fours and so far he has added 40 with Ed Joyce, who is 16.
Sussex 67-1 (27.3)
Afternoon Ryfish. A few technical problems again but you haven't missed many updates. Luke Wright isn't playing because of a tight hamstring so Dwayne Smith has replaced him.
As for the pitch, well it is definitely taking spin already but only slow turn. There has been some swing on a sultry morning for Willoughby and Thomas but Nash is leaving well and picking off the bad balls. It's not the usual Taunton road that's for sure. Anyway, Nash is 45 and Joyce 4.
WICKET: Sussex 48-1 (21.3)
Yardy goes for 15. Willougby bowled from slightly wide of the crease and got the ball to straighten and Yardy got a thin tickle to Kieswetter behind the stumps. Nash had a life in the next over when a firm push off Banks was dropped at short leg by Suppiah when he was on 27. One of those instinctive catches that either stick or they don't. Nash now 31 and Ed Joyce yet to get off the mark.
Sussex 38-0 (12)
Ten to 12 and spin is being employed already. Somerset have three of them in their side including Suppiah but it's the tall Antiguan offie Omari Banks who is coming on at the Old Pavilion end. Yardy 12, Nash 25.
Sussex 26-0 (7)
Willoughby and Thomas but mostly after it has past the bat. Langer caught Yardy at silly mid on when they won at Hove in June and he has positioned himself there again, no more than eight yards from the bat and virtually next to the cut strip. Nash played an authoritative drive past mid on for four in the last over from Thomas to move to 16 while Yardy has ten.
