Your article under the headline “Reversed role for drug dealer’s car” made interesting reading. It is nice to know the police do get some convictions for crimes such as drug dealing, but I can’t help feeling this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Within the last week I have heard about two people within the Sussex area who have called the police. One of them reported wildlife crime happening “now”, and the other one reported that he was videoing some people dealing drugs “now”. They each got a crime number. Neither of them witnessed a team of police officers swooping on the criminals and carting them away, because no one responded immediately to the report. Neither of them has so far had a visit from their local beat officer to take a statement or collect the video evidence. Maybe there would have been better responses if they had phoned Crimestoppers rather than calling the police? But if the police actually responded to calls from the public would there be any need for an organisation like Crimestoppers to campaign for people to pass on information?
