Thankfully, no one actually killed any cats, but it was an attention-grabbing title, just like much of the subject matter was in this two-man show.

Writer Andy Thomas played the eccentric, mad professor type, while Rob Maloney was a strait-laced looking character actor. The audience loved them and were often howling with laughter and egging them on.

The show consisted of a series of sketches on a variety of sensitive, controversial subjects including politics, war and trade union disputes.

The highlights were a sketch of programmes for schools on dark moments of history in which Professor Richard Jones (Thomas) discussed the horrors of the slave trade and the battle of the Somme, while having to compete with co-host Justin Timberlake (played by Maloney), whose teenage TV-inspired dumbing-down of the subject matter compared it to ordering pizzas and college life.

Maloney skilfully impersonated a range of characters including Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson and, most exceptionally, Detective Columbo from the American TV series, whom he had clearly studied closely.

Some of the material, however, although contentious, lacked depth or substance.

Overall it was a well-received, exuberant performance from a double-act that should be around for quite some time.
