Having a large interest in military history and having researched many local wartime and Cold War installations, I was contacted last year by an Argus reporter.
I was asked for my opinion and questioned if there was any truth in a rumour, which had been circulating the area for many years, suggesting that a Government bunker was built to the side of the A27 Southwick Tunnel.
An article was subsequently published and a debate soon began.
It would appear that many have interpreted this article differently to some and now believe that this rumour is true.
No evidence of a bunker located here exists and personally, due to construction methods, location, plant and ventilation issues, I strongly believe that this alleged bunker does not exist.
Anyone wishing to discuss this matter further or those wishing to learn more about military sites which did exist in Sussex, please feel free to do so by calling 07793 435428 or by emailing me at graham lelliott@hotmail.co.uk.
