I would like to thank The Argus for the goody bags distributed to the Sussex supporters last Saturday at the Friends Provident final (the flap jack may have just saved my life).
However, it is with great regret that I report our Sid the Shark masks were confiscated at the Lord’s gates.
My wife had hers taken from her bag and I was restrained when I tried to remove it from the bin (over-flowing with Sidney likenesses) despite trying to explain to the rather overzealous security man that we only wanted to keep it as a memento of the occasion.
It says little for the effectiveness of the “security staff” that during the match a few rogue Sids popped up to the great amusement of the crowd.
No harm was being done but these were also forcibly removed (an act that required two “heavies” such is the danger posed to the public by a paper mask) from those supporters foolish enough to disobey the rules and wear them. Bottles, cans, cutlery, including knifes, and glasses all allowed but paper, well that’s just too lethal for Lord’s.
We came second on Saturday but we’ll bounce back. Sid will be avenged.
