Three weeks ago I had never heard of Brighton Pride – this week, I must have been asked at least twice a day if I am going to Pride – seems like it is a pretty big deal down here! Pride is such a fitting name - I have never been to a city where all residents are so proud to be part of.
I have been dong my research, but I still don’t fully know what to expect. I have heard rumours of all night raves on the beach, endless street carnivals and venues across Brighton putting on special events for the occasion.
The parade seems to be the biggest thing. I am expecting the vibe to be similar to that of Nottingham Carnival (but with hopefully a lot less hassle – last year when trying to leave I seemed to get stuck in the parade!). I am expecting bright colours and extravagant costumes and a general party vide that can be felt throughout the city.
I haven’t made any set plans for this weekend of being in any certain places at certain times. I am hoping that I’ll get a good taster by wondering through from Hove to Brighton and dipping in any pub which seems to be going along with the party!
