I was highly disappointed when my friend pointed out that I missed a big even last week – I can’t believe I failed to mention the infamous Naked Brighton Bike Ride! I had been seeing the posters around for months and keeping a mental note to remember the ride – Gutted that I missed it (Must get a diary to stop such occurrences happening again) The Brighton naked bike ride is to celebrate cycling and the human body, it's is an annual event so I hope to catch it next year!
So while people were causing a scene riding naked across Brighton, I was tucked safely in a canoe on the river Ardur. I mentioned before that I was not sure why you need lessons to go kayaking, I still stand by this, yet am going back next week – and staying on the beginners course. Why? Well firstly, it was enjoyable. The teachers were entertaining and it was good fun to be paddling around the open water. While I didn’t learn any new techniques, I did learn that what I knew was right and so I should keep doing it which is actually good to know. I also found that I would like to keep going, but to move up a level and in order to do this, I need to do another beginners session. This isn’t the end of the world- I like to think of it as practicing!
Next week, I won’t be posting – why I hear you ask? Well I am off to Glastonbury! Being a Glastonbury virgin, I must admit I am pretty scared! Now I can cope with not washing for a week (not that it is something I tend to do on a regular basis, I’m confident wet wipes and dry hair shampoo will tide me over) and I can cope with getting rained on, if I can come home to a warm house. But what I can’t cope with is being cold AND wet. But I am going to stay positive that it will be sunny (and pack wellies, waterproof trousers, a mac, and all the warm clothes I own just in case!) As for the line up for Glastonbury – where to start?! Am I un-cool if I don’t want to see Prodigy? And to be honest, while I’d like to see Glasvegas, Little Boots, The Ting Tings, Lilly Allen, the Black eyed peas, Bon Ivor, Just Jack, Jason Mraz, (the list is endless) no one band sticks out. But I think this is actually a good thing. Isn’t it awful to be stuck at one side of the field/in the queue for the loo, when the one band you wanted to see over the whole festival begins, you break you neck only to catch the last song of their set and they were rubbish anyway? The way I see it, is I am going in with an open mind in the hope to be pleasantly surprised by bands I stumble upon.
However, I do know that Newton Faulkner is playing and advice for anyone else going, in my opinion, he is well worth popping along to – even if you don’t like his music. He is a great entertaining performer – very talented and very funny! Do let me know if there are any other ‘musts’ who are worth losing your place in line for the loo and I will break my neck and try and see them!
