I have always said I did not want this to go to the last game of the season, but it has. If Albion win then they will be playing in League one next season. This has come about after Albion increased their unbeaten run to four games with a important 2-2 draw away at Huddersfield. More than 2,000 fans saw Albion twice come from behind with goals from Andrew and Owusu securing a nail biting finish to the season, Albion closest rivals Carlisle managed a draw against relegated Cheltenham but also had two players sent off.
So attentions turn to the last fixture at home to Stockport. Their manager Jim Gannon is who turned down the Job after Adams was sacked. We also have bought McNulty from them and have Dicker on loan - two great players. They beat Crewe on Friday night but have been out of form and dropped right out of the play off picture and will have to settle for a mid table finish. The game has now sold out and a crowd best of nearly 9,000 is expected. I for one cannot wait but I know that I will have trouble sleeping on Friday night as I will be worried sick. What do I think the score will be? I think Albion will be fighting in this game and I reckon we can win 2-1. I really want to stay up especially with Charlton and Southampton to play next season.
So here are the permutations for Saturday.
Hereford and Cheltenham are already relegated. Crewe need to beat Leicester 4-0 and hope we and Carlisle lose so you could say that they are relegated.
Northampton only need a point from there last two games but they are against MK Dons and Leeds so they are still not safe, but I would expect it to be between us and Carlisle. They are at home to Milwall which is a hard fixture. If we win we stay up, If we draw and Carlisle win they stay up, if we draw and Carlisle draw we stay up, If we lose and Carlisle win Carlisle stay up, If we lose and Carlisle lose or draw then we stay up. Simple really!
I will be back on Monday for my end of season blog, fingers and toes crossed for Saturday – c’mon boys you can do it!
