Conductor Christopher Hogwood has assembled a stellar cast for a rare concert performance of Handel’s late opera to mark the 250th anniversary of Handel’s death.
Hogwood – one of the most influential figures in the early music movement – brings together Miah Persson, Lisa Milne, Angelika Kirchschlager, Sonia Prina, Marina de Liso and Antonio Abete. Handel’s opera retells the story of Theseus and the minotaur with a pronounced Baroque slant as enduring love triumphs over barbarism.
Full of drama and vocal virtuosity, Arianna in Creta has surprisingly contemporary resonance.
