In Schubert’s short life, he created a staggering collection of more than 600 songs, bringing a new depth and sophistication to the form.
A Romantic in the Byronic mould, he laced his most potent works with a brooding melancholy and valedictory intensity.
For Ian Bostridge, described as “a lyric tenor of uncanny focus and intensity” by New Yorker magazine, interpreting and recording these works has been the keystone of a meteoric career that has taken him from Carnegie Hall to the Barbican.
This performance will see him take to the stage with pianist Roger Vignoles.
- Starts 8pm. Tickets £20, £15.
