Jay Lovett wasted the best chance of a poor first half at Priory Lane.

There was a real end-of-season feel to the opening 45 minutes but Lovett should have given a big crowd something to get excited about six minutes before the break.

Allan Tait did well down the left and floated over a fine cross for Lovett but he glanced his header wide at the far post with the goal gaping.

That was one of only a handful of openings in a game which has not been helped by the standard of the playing surface.

Time and again players from both sides have misplaced passes or failed to control the ball due to the hard and uneven surface.

The visitors' best chance came after only 90 seconds when Jason Walker shot narrowly wide with Lee Hook beaten while Mark Boyd also put an ambitious effort over from 25 yards.

Borough have been slightly better and Nathan Crabb also had a good chance to break the deadlock when he beat goalkeeper Tim Deasy to Lovett's through ball but his lob went wide.
