Something very special will be happening to Queen’s Park for the first weekend in May, as it is transformed into an elemental night-time playground of illusion and experience.
Commissioned exclusively for Brighton Festival, this event will see the park open under cover of darkness, before visitors’ journeys unfold in twilight meander across a landscape of fire, water, light and shadow.
The people behind this outdoor installation are Walk The Plank, who have been creating performance-based events for more than two decades, including the People’s Opening for Liverpool ’08 and the closing ceremony for the Manchester Commonwealth Games.
Light will flood dark places, sound will find secret spaces and mirrors will distort and reflect.
For the team behind the installation, the process is the performance. As they forge their work – molten glass blown into strange forms, sheet metal cut into flaming trees and towers – the park will itself become a shimmering artwork.
Open from 8.30pm to 11pm – last admission 10.30pm.
Free (limited capacity) Supported by American Express Foundation and Southern
