A man found injured in a Brighton pub has died in hospital.
Robert Anderson, 41, of Upper Lewes Road, spent three nights in intensive care after police found him unconscious and unable to breathe at the Good Companions pub in Dyke Road on Monday night.
Staff had called them to the pub saying Mr Anderson had attacked them.
He was pronounced dead at about 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.
A post-mortem is being held today which is expected to include toxicology tests to find out what levels of drugs or alcohol were in Mr Anderson's body at the time of his death.
Police were called to the pub after staff reported Mr Anderson had attacked them with a pool cue.
Customers restrained him until police arrived but when officers got there at 9.40pm they found he was not breathing.
They used specialist equipment to restart his heart and try to revive him until paramedics arrived.
Police arrested three men, aged 18, 22 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and later released on bail.
South East Coast Ambulance Service said they treated a man who had suffered a heart attack and taken him to Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Mr Anderson's condition was at first described as serious, then critical.
News of his death was released this morning.
It is understood police do not plan to rearrest any of the men at the moment.
