Detectives have been given more time to question a man on suspicion of murdering his mother-in-law.
Mohammad Soboh, 40, was arrested after Pauline Knowles-Samarraie was found dead following a fire at his home.
A post-mortem yesterday confirmed the 71-year-old grandmother had died of head injuries.
This morning Sussex Police confirmed they have been granted an extra 30 hours to question Mr Soboh before they have to either charge him or release him.
Mrs Knowles-Samarraie's body was found in a burning bungalow in Grand Crescent, Rottingdean, at lunchtime on Wednesday.
Work is continuing today to find out exactly what caused the fire and complete the formal identification of the body.
