Firefighters were called after a dog was found with its head stuck in a tub in a Brighton street.
The mongrel had tried to reach a meat snack wrapper at the bottom of a protein supplement container - but got trapped in the tub.
Passers-by found the animal in The Highway, Moulsecoomb, at about 8pm last night and called the fire brigade at to cut the animal free.
There was no sign of its owner and the passers-by told firefighters they planned to call the RSPCA.
While they were working on the dog, a driver parked 50 yards away asked them for help freeing their child from their Ford Fiesta.
Their central locking had malfunctioned when they got out of the car - leaving the young baby trapped inside.
The firefighters used specialist equipment to break the window without smashing the glass.
A fire crew in Haywards Heath dealt with a similar problem at about 3.50pm yesterday.
A mother put her child in her Jeep and closed the door - only to realise the nine-month-old boy had become trapped.
Firefighters had to break the window to allow her into the car, which was on the drive of the family's home in Scaynes Hill Road, Haywards Heath.
