A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a bungalow.
The body of the woman, who was in her 70s, was discovered by firefighters as they fought a blaze in a property in Grand Crescent, Rottingdean, yesterday.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire in Grand Crescent at about 1.30pm. Detectives are working closely with the fire service to try to find out what caused the blaze at the £300,000 property and how the woman died.
A post mortem examination will take place later today to establish the cause of the woman's death. Her identity is expected to be released once family members have been informed.
A man, who was also caught in the fire, was treated for smoke inhalation at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
