So one of the most important weeks for the Albion as we were still in the relegation zone, but after a great win away at Colchester on Easter Monday I actually started to believe we could do it.
We started the Saturday three points from safety and we knew that a win at home to Oldham could see us get out of the relegation zone. Going into this game a lot of people were saying we will win easy as Oldham have nothing to play for. I disagree with this, even if Albion had nothing to play for I would still expect them to try there hardest, and I was not wrong.
Brighton came out strong and completely dominated the game. Hart was immense, Virgo defended excellent Owusu and Dicker were very good too, we deservedly won 3-1 with 2 goals from Owusu and a header from Cox. So after this match we were one point off the safety with a game in hand.
So on the Tuesday night, we were off to Bristol Rovers. We won at the Memorial Ground 2-0 on the last away game of the season, we decided to leave at 4pm and thought this would be enough time. The sat nav was saying we would arrive at 6.30pm so we thought we had loads of time ... How wrong we were. Unfortunately there was an accident and the road was closed - we thought we were not going to make it, so I came up with the idea of going to the next train station and doing that, but the train would not arrive until 9.15pm.
So we decided to go back to the M25 and go from there. An hour later we got onto the M25, one junction along from where we went off, but we had wasted an hour. Our helpful Sat Nav was telling us we would arrive at our destination at 8pm, 15 minutes after kick off, Max turned to me and said I think we should go home and I agreed, but I was determined to make this fixture. We knew it was going to be tight but we had to cover 90 miles in 90 minutes. Somehow with my Mario Kart style driving made it into the ground with only five minutes being played. How I managed it I do not know but I was relived to have made it especially as I had needed the loo from Gatwick!
We were not disappointed either. We knew this game in hand was massive and could lift us out of the relegation zone, Bristol took the lead through their 28 goal marksman Lambert, but it was Albion who dominated the game and Hart was in terrific form again setting up Owusu and Andrews for there goals. The last ten minutes were unbearable as Albion were holding onto their slender lead but we held on and went on to clinch a 2-1 victory.
Oh the irony of a Palace player on loan to us scoring the winner and diving into the away fans (700 who made the trip) and became a hero.
Northampton also played there one of their games in hand which the drew with Scunthorpe 3-3, so this result now leaves us in 19th in the table two points above the relegation zone with two games to play. Basically all we need down is four points from our last two games, but with the other teams having difficult fixtures this coming week I generally feel we could be safe by 5pm Saturday. This is the first time we have been out of the zone since February and the praise has to go to Slade for turning us into a great well organised side. I think we should definitely keep him next season.
So for a change a nice happy trip home with a little help from the Foo Fighters we were in a jolly mood and got home at around 1.30am. Today I feel shattered but it was all worth it to go and see Brighton climb into safety and take a massive leap in there battle for survival. Today I am proud to be an Albion fan!
