In response to councillor Theobald’s 17 toilets between Hove Lagoon and Black Rock (Letters, April 20), this may sound like adequate provision but on the busiest part of the beach, from the West Pier to Volk’s railway, there are only four toilets.
There is a temporary prefab by the West Pier, a pay-to-use facility by the tunnel leading to West Street, another 150 yards east of the Palace Pier (currently closed) and a convenience opposite Volk’s railway which was forced to shut due to overuse on Bank Holiday Monday.
Imagine the result when tens of thousands use the beach during the summer? The stink under the pier now will give some indication.
Adequate provision? I don’t think so.
