A design agency has created the country’s first ethically based financial comparison site.
Neo, based in Brighton, was commissioned by the Ethical Investment Research Service (EIRIS) to provide consumers with information about financial providers’ green and social credentials.
The website will cover all aspects of personal finance including banking, ISAs, pensions, mortgages, credit cards, student finance, insurance and child trust funds.
Companies can be searched by “policies” and “portfolios”.
A policy search includes a company’s policy towards the environment, responsibility towards customers, ethical lending and products, equal opportunities and carbon emissions.
A portfolio search enables people to find out about a company’s partnerships and associations with organisations on more specific issues such as animal testing, arms, nuclear power, human rights, tobacco and climate change.
Matt Wood, creative director at Neo, said: “We hope that consumers find the site easy to navigate and understand, as well as being a comprehensive practical research tool for future ethically-based financial planning.
“As we are plunging into a recession it seems even more vital to understand who we are investing our hard-earned cash with.”
The website will go live next month.
