It’s been brought to my attention that you have all enjoyed my daily blogs from my journey to the John Smith’s Peoples Race so I thought I’d continue to write them to keep you all informed of my progress and what’s going on.
First of all, I thought you’d enjoy seeing some of the photographs from the day itself.
Well last Monday morning was a nice start to the day, the sun is shining and it’s nice and warm, always a great feeling to go out to work and feel the sun beaming down on you. It is great for working in and the horses also enjoy it as well, there’s nothing better than getting in the saddle and going for a good two hours hack through the beautiful woodlands and quiet lanes of Wigonholt and Rackham and the surrounding areas. It’s such a great time of the year walking on horseback through the woods at Wiggonholt when the trees are coming into bloom and there’s so much wildlife to be enjoyed.
Whilst I’m riding Canada down the winding country lanes of Rackham I am quick to notice some deer with young running across the fields. It’s a pleasure to see them so happy in there natural environment. Canada has really enjoyed the sunshine today and now has the rest of the day in the field munching on the rich spring grass that’s coming through.
We continue to do this ride all week enjoying the country side as we make our way through the woods and country lanes it’s so peaceful and calming, a great environment to ride horses, no traffic or any hassles. Who can really say they enjoy their job as much as me? I have everything I could possibly want - a great horse to ride beautiful scenery and brilliant sunshine.
In the evenings I bring Canada in from the field, his daily treat after a good mornings exercise, and give him good brushing over to remove any mud or sweat marks from the mornings exercise. The grooming of a horse is very important. Not only does it keep the horse clean and comfortable but it’s great for circulation and it’s a nice massage for the muscles as well. Thankfully Canada enjoys being groomed after his daily treat of polos from me. Then it’s rugs on and into the stable for him.
It’s been an exciting week I guess, the weather has been great, I am also very pleased and excited about Canada’s jumping: on Wednesday we had a couple of show jumps in the sand school, which he jumped perfectly, so that has pleased me a lot. The hard work that has been put into him is starting to pay off very quickly, and the added fact he is a clever horse makes it all go a lot smoother.
I’ll be back next week to tell you how the new week has been and all about the adventures me and Canada have had.
