Detectives investigating the death of a teenage mother whose skeletal remains were found in woodland have arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

Children playing in Redgeland Wood in the Queensway area of St Leonards, near Hastings, found a human skull last October.

Further remains were later found around the woodland scene and medical records were used to identify them as those of 19-year-old Victoria Couchman.

Her father, named by sources as Tony Couchman, 45, was later arrested on suspicion of her murder and bailed to return to Eastbourne Custody Centre on May 12.

Sussex Police said the man was arrested today on suspicion of perverting the course of justice but refused to be drawn on whether the suspect is Ms Couchman's father.

A police spokesman said: "The man will be interviewed during the course of the day at Eastbourne Custody Centre. It is not anticipated that any further comment will be available today."

It was originally thought that the human remains had lain in the woods, near the Wishing Tree Reservoir, for up to 10 years.

But following the further discoveries, police revised their estimate and said they believed Ms Couchman, a single mother who lived with her father about a mile from the woodland, went missing some time last May.

They have also said she was not reported as a missing person to Sussex Police.

Messages of condolence were left on the social networking website Bebo, where Ms Couchman wrote a poignant motto urging people to "live life to the full".
