Antisocial drivers who put other road users at risk have been targeted in a police operation.

Five people were arrested for drink driving along with two for driving while unfit through drink or drugs and for driving while disqualified.

Another 545 people were handed £60 fines and given three points on their licences or were ordered to appear in court after they were stopped for breaking the speed limit.

Police seized 27 vehicles which were being driven without insurance and their drivers were fined up to £200 and given points on their licences.

A further 34 people received fines for driving while not wearing seatbelts.

The operation ran in the Chichester area between March 30 and April 12.

It targeted motorists who have been reported to Sussex Police either directly or through the Operation Crackdown website by members of the public.

Sergeant Damian Merrifield, of the Chichester Road Policing Unit, said: “We are committed to tackling motorists who are willing to put other people’s lives at risk as a result of their dangerous or antisocial driving.”

People can report antisocial driving by phone on 01243 642222 or by going to www.
