I am loving the bright evenings at the moment - for some reason it takes you out of hibernation. Just getting home while it is light gives you lots more energy to go out and play, but after going out two nights in a row (and on a school night at that) my body is starting to slow down - thank goodness it is a four day week!
On Tuesday, I went to go and see the Virgins (be careful when you Google their name!) at Digital. They were supported by Chew Lips who are one of many electric bands with a female vocal lead. While they had a few technical errors, I thought they were really strong which was mainly down to their lead Tig's vocals holding it all together. They are releasing a track called Solo which is a shame as it was one of my least favourite so I hope that this doesn't spoil their chances of making it big.
I actually preferred them to the Virgins, the headlining US band who were formerly models (I am not sure why I found this point so interesting!). Only a few weeks ago I mentioned another gig I went to where I preferred the support act, so I'd making a mental note that while it's tempting to stay in the pub for one more, the support acts are worth the gamble. It wasn't that the Virgins were awful; more that they were much of a muchness really. It was strangely their encore that let them down - it felt like it was longer than their actual set! I prefer a traditional encore that is only performed at a crowds request and consists of a song that the band hadn't planned to perform.
I also went to watch the football in the Blind Busker. I am yet to find a pub I really like that plays sport. I am hoping that I find a pub better than the Blind Busker. During the match it was piping hot and everyone that I bumped into there was, well a bit odd really!
So looking ahead - I can't find too much on that's whetting my appetite at the moment. My hot pick is Motown at the Latest Music bar, although I am not entirely sure where the Manchester Road is!
