I totally disagree with Ian Slater (Letters, April 11). Councillors have as much right as anyone else to write to The Argus, expressing their views – it is part of the job we pay them for.
It is perfectly proper for Labour opposition councillors to write in highlighting the effects of decisions taken by the city’s Conservative-led council, just as it is appropriate for Conservative councillors to write and defend their actions.
This is all part of the debate that should keep residents informed about what our city council is doing.
If Mr Slater views this debate as petty and immature he can move on to the sports pages or TV listings.
He may not like the views expressed, but if The Argus starts to exclude the opinions of our elected representatives, it will be a sad day for democracy.
