Dozens of homes were left without electricity after power lines were brought down in a car crash.
Phone lines were also affected following the accident on the A267 at Horam, near Heathfield, just 200 years from the May Garland Inn.
A car was involved in a collision with a lorry which then hit a telegraph pole.
The pole fell across the road, cutting off supplies to almost 50 properties.
Nobody was injured in the accident, which happened at around 11.20am today.
A recovery truck brought in to take away the damaged lorry got caught up in the debris across the road which delayed the clear up.
The road eventually reopened more than three hours later.
Engineers from EDF Energy spent most of yesterday working to restore power and supplies were expected to return by early evening.
