Eastbourne Borough will be hugely relieved to go in goalless at half-time after being completely outplayed at the Abbey Stadium.

Cambridge United will be wondering how they failed to score after laying seige to the Borough penalty area.

They did have the ball in the net once when Andy Parkinson pounced on a mistake by Ben Austin but the celebrations were cut short by the linesman's flag.

Daryl McMahon should have scored when he had time to control Parkinson's cross and pick his spot but put his shot straight at Hook.

Amazingly, considering Cambridge's dominance, that was one of only two saves Hook had to make in the opening 45 minutes. The other was fairly comfortable too as Danny Crow fired straight at the Borough keeper from the edge of the area.

Josh Coulson and Danny Crow narrowly failed to get decisive touches to a series of dangerous balls across the face of the goal as it appeared inevitable the home side would break the deadlock.

The Borough defence held firm but the visitors will need to keep the ball better in the second half if they are to come away with anything.

They have managed just two attempts at goal with a 30-yard strike from Ben Austin flying wide and Matt Smart's free kick being comfortably saved by Danny Potter.
