Midfielder Dannie Bulman stunned promotion-chasing Torquay by giving Crawley the lead at Plainmoor today.
Bulman fired in from close range in the 38th minute after Jamie Cook had done superbly on the right to go past Chris Robertson and pull the ball back into Bulman's path.
Torquay should have equalised two minutes later when Blair Sturrock robbed Jake Wright on the bye-line to tee up top scorer Tim Sills but Sills side-footed wide of the target.
Sills had earlier forced Simon Rayner to save his swerving shot but Crawley did their defensive duties diligently although Adam Quinn was booked for the 13th time this season for an early foul on Sills.
