I AGREE with a recent letter stating that, on the whole, the library in Old Shoreham Road, Portslade, has little to offer by way of current books.
In another letter, Councillor Smith highlighted the pinnacle of Jubilee Library in Brighton (Letters, April 4).
One expects this purpose-built 21st century library to be fit for purpose and it is super to have this library now open on Sundays .
Coun Smith also mentions that Hove Library will be opening half-day on Mondays but forgets to remind readers it has been closed all day Monday to the public for years.
The public it seems are viewed as borrowers only.
Portslade Library closes for lunch and is closed without notice if a member of staff calls in ill.
The tired books, in my opinion, are old and the library struggled to sell off their unwanted fiction at only 50p a book.
The only myth, Mr Smith, is that local people in Portslade are happy with their municipal library. A library which, in my opinion, is run for the convenience of the staff instead of the user and taxpayer. I, for one, am sick of the lame excuse of “we have not got X but you may be able to look it up online”.
Portslade Library needs change.
