I WOULD like to thank Gordon Dinnage for his pain- staking research concerning The Winter Saloon enclosed car on Volk’s Electric Railway (Letters, March 28).
It was a very sad ending to a car which gave me great pleasure as a small child as I rode from the Aquarium to Black Rock.
I have often wondered, over 75 years, what happened to it.
I hope and pray Adam Trimingham’s vision of im-provement to the Volk’s comes to fruition.
I noticed from Mr Dinnage’s letter that the car seated 24 passengers. Would it be possible for a new car to be built on the same lines as the old one and convey family and wedding parties up and down the seafront while they enjoyed a meal? The menu would have to be adapted and a gangway built so those waiting could serve the customers.
It would be a novel idea, if practicable, but would be a great tourist attraction for locals and visitors.
