This was a unique night in which a little gem of an art gallery was transformed into a hub of musical creativity.
Named Tim’s House Presents..., all the talented musicians – including Ben Griffith, Danni Nicholls, Conrad Vingoe, Charlot Webster and Kate Walsh – have recorded at the Brighton-based studio of producer Tim Bidwell. Danni Nicholls’s new EP Heavy Shoes shone with her polished folk-guitar playing and vocals.
Headlining singer-songwriter Kate Walsh topped the iTunes download album chart two years’ ago with her debut album Tim’s House. Before she performed the heart-wrenching title track from her second album Light And Dark, due to be released soon, Kate warned: “This is the saddest song I’ve ever written.”
A classically trained pianist, Kate played electric piano as she sang opener Gather My Strength. She then switched to guitar to sing The Seafarer and Your Song.
Delivered with a naturally soft, haunting but powerful intonation, her romantic, storytelling lyrics were mesmerising.
This Brighton-based sensation from an Essex fishing town may find the world is her oyster, as she captivates audiences with her personal and sometimes mocking songs.
