Elvis has played sell-out Las Vegas gigs, performed for millions of TV viewers in his 1968 comeback special and even met President Nixon in the White House.

But all of this pales in comparison to the King's latest special performance – at Cavell House Care Home in Shoreham.

Elvis, also known as impersonator Mark Wright, belted through his hits and took car of business for residents at the care home in Middle Road.

The special event, organised by the home's activities coordinator Sacha Rome, went down a storm with residents who relived their youth.

But there was one fan who was smiling more than most.

Fanatical 82-year-old Elvis fan Doreen Dyer, whose room is adorned with posters of the Memphis singer, was treated to a special solo performance of Love Me Tender.

Not everything was to Doreen's satisfaction though.

Despite a brilliant performance from Elvis, Doreen found fault with his costume.

When asked what was her favourite part of Elvis's career she said: "I liked him when he was in his white jump suit."

To which Elvis replied: "The one I got on right now?"

"Yes," said Doreen, "but without all the decorations. Just the plain white without decoration. I don't know what you want all this on for."

Nikki Wheatly-Croee, manager of the care home, said: "Doreen loves Elvis and so he's come in just for her and the other residents. We try and do a variety of events for all of our residents to make their lives interesting within the home, fundraising and all sorts."

Mark added: "It was great fun. It always amazes me how people of the older generation respond to Elvis's music and people think if you're older you're not going to get into things.

"In fact Elvis was the person they had posters of up on their wall when they were little girls and it's taking them back to that time. It's great I love it and one of the best parts of the job.”
