I am perplexed by Brighton and Hove City Council’s logic on refuse collection.
They have sent letters to a large number of council taxpayers saying you can only put out recycling boxes on the “given day” of collection. Failure to do so could result in a £75 fine (The Argus, April 4).
However, in the “artist” area north of the Sackville Road bridge, where my visually impaired mother lives, they have just provided each house with a wheelie bin for non recyclable waste. These houses do not have “off-street parking” for these bins.
These bins will have to be placed on the pavement, reducing it in size and making access difficult.
This is the same reason given by the council for not placing recycling boxes out early.
If we place the recycling boxes out early there could be a fine. Leave out a wheelie bin 24 hours a day and there won’t be a fine. Can somebody explain the difference?
