Brighton Bus and Coach Company advertise that they are the easy way to travel around the city. Today, four weeks after having my baby, I decided to try getting the bus into the city centre to see how practical it would be with a pram.
I tried to get on a bus at about noon at the stop after Lewes Road bus garage.
Unfortunately, I had no change (it’s difficult getting out and about with a newborn baby to have change in the first place) and offered the driver a £10 note.
He said he had no change and I would have to wait for another bus.
I was made to get off and ended up walking all the way into the city centre with my crying baby instead of getting the bus, which I was hoping would be the simpler way.
Surely drivers should have enough change on them?
Or perhaps he could have allowed me to get on the bus and wait until he had enough change from subsequent passengers? This is an outrageous thing to do.
As a result of what I had to go through, I am now in pain as I have not yet recovered properly from having my baby. I will certainly not be using “the practical way of getting around the city” again if all the bus drivers adopt this attitude.
