It was suggested by Jean Calder (Letters, April 3) that my previous correspondence may have been in error. I didn’t want to go into too much detail but I will if it helps.
A screen went up around the outside of the church because of falling masonry and certain measures were taken so people could enter the church without injury.
Then it was found the inside of the church was also unsafe so the whole body of the church, where the congregation sits, was also fenced off. This only left the high altar and the area where the choir used to sit.
As the choir has already left St Peter’s, because they could see no future for themselves in this building, this area was used to seat the, now small, congregation.
On top of all this, the ancient central heating system broke down so the only thing left to do was abandon the church and move into the hall which runs on a separate heating system.
