Last week all plans went out the window and I spent the evenings in the pub and the days in the sun, the hail and well the pub! Brighton and Hove have great pubs to offer, and I am learning that this easily happens. I ate out in pubs such as Mistys, sat along the seafront with great views in Ohso Social and had a bit of a drunken night out in the Hope in Brighton - great times!
Tonight I am off to Playgroup's Save The Winged Badger Shark! at Concorde 2. Now that's a bit of a mouthful! I have never been to Concorde 2 and am quite excited - walking past it, it looks rather shabby but I have heard that it's great as a music venue with high ceilings and great space (and I have brought my ticket, so won’t get distracted by pubs on the way this time!) A variety of bands are there tonight, but I am most looking forward to Los Albertos, a Brighton based band who describe their music as Ska/Punk/Funk but I think of them simply as upbeat and feel good music - well worth a listen on their MySpace page.
I doubt I can get up in time, but if I do, I'd like to check out the freestyle dance classes at City Gate Centre on Saturday morning which as far as I can see are free so worth a peer in. They allow all dancers of all ages - I am not sure if they'll expect all my left feet!
Meanwhile, buzz is starting to build around Brighton’s fringe festival - I saw some of it visiting Brighton last year but I am looking forward to soaking up the atmosphere properly this year. Some tickets sell out fast, so it's worth looking at what you want to see now and booking early here. I spent hours looking over what's on offer - there's loads to choose from WW2 air raid shelter tours for only £2 to huge parties such as the Parlure Opening party as well as endless comedy and theatre shows - I can't wait!
So as usual it's over to you, what are you up to this weekend - Wevie Stonder at the Basement sounds intriguing, as does the Chinchilla band and the blue lagoon bar in Hove (A bar which I have not heard of so will look more into I think!) or maybe you're off to for some foot stomping blues and seeing the 7 piece blues band at Hectors house...
