World War One veteran Henry Allingham has become the oldest ever British man at 112 years old and 296 days. He is also the oldest Royal Navy veteran.
The previous record was set by Welshman John Evans, who died in 1990, aged 112 years and 295 days.
Mr Allingham is spending the day quietly at St Dunstan's care home for blind ex-service personnel, in Ovingdean, near Brighton.
He will turn 113 on June 6.
