Nine people have been charged after a protest to stop the mass deportation of failed asylum-seekers.
The five women and four men were arrested at Tinsley House Immigration Removal Centre at Gatwick on Tuesday.
Police were called at 7.15am after a group of people carrying a banner saying “No collective expulsions".
They said they were aiming to stop detainees at the centre being taken to Stansted and removed on a flight with about 50 Iraqi failed asylum-seekers.
At about 1pm nine people were arrested and removed from the area. A spokeswoman for the UK Border Agency later said the transporting of detainees had not been interrupted.
Louisa Jones, 24, Adam Payne, 21, Paul Whitehouse, 21, Chiara Lauvergnac, 47, Ellie Schling, 26, Juliane Heider, 22, Theresa Scaleicher, 21, George Lavender, 21, and Richard Whittell, 29, all from London, were charged with aggravated trespass.
They were all released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on March 30.
