Brighton 2-4 Peterborough Att: 5,087.
A cold night at Withdean saw an impressive Peterborough beat Brighton with a little help from the officials.
An exciting game full of goals was watched by a pretty poor crowd but it was really cold so who can blame some people, the ones that did turn up were in very good voice especially with the two new boys McNulty and Davies scoring on their impressive debuts.
The score at half time was 2-2 but one of the Boro goals were very suspect, Mclean scored but Mackail Smith was clearly in the way of Sullivan, surely he was interfering with play, so why did the linesman not flag?
Albion deserved a point but the game turned on a dubious penalty, the superb Boyd who ripped Virgo apart all night got "tripped" in the area, the referee gave a penalty which they scored.
I was too far away to say it was not a penalty and would have to see it again but Adams said on the radio there was no contact. We never looked like coming back from that and they scored again later on to make the scoreline very flattering.
Although we lost, I think the boys played very well especially the first half. Carole controlled the midfield and Davies looked sharp up front but when Boro had a chance they took it, Mackail-Smith, Maclean and Boyd were very good and Albion did look weak at times against the free scoring side.
I think the formation (4-3-3) was brave from Micky but in the second half I think he should have changed to 4-2-2 and taken off Forster and brought on Cox or Mcleod.
There was a positive response from the fans at the end apart from a couple of people who booed and said Micky out, but I do not know what game they were watching.
As for Saturday, another home fixture, this time at home to Carlisle. We never seem to play well against them but I feel we can get all three points and move nearer to safety. The new players do look good and when Murray is fit we will have a very good squad.
Sullivan 5, Good keeper but letting in too many goals, kicking was not good tonight.
Virgo 4, Not a good game, I hope it was just Boyd showing him up.
Elphick 6, OK, should have done better with first goal.
Hinshelwood 6, OK, also should have done better with first goal.
McNulty 7, Good debut, tall, strong likes to get forward and scored as well.
Carole 8 Was brilliant in first half but ball did not go down the left in second half, needs to defend more.
El Aabd 6, Looked strong but needs to shoot more.
Jarrett 4, Not a great game, let them attack to much, backed off a lot.
Forster 3, Please do not play him on the wing again, not his best position.
Andrews 5, Not as good as Hartlepool game should have scored. Davies 9 MOM, Great debut, strong, skilful, good lay offs and scored, impressed with him.
Fraser 5 Cox 5 McLeod 4
