On Monday the High Sheriff of East Sussex and his wife along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Brighton and Hove joined the members of Portslade Old People's Club for their annual birthday lunch.
They were met by club chairman Mrs Iris Harding and were quickly at home helping to serve the drinks and clear the tables after.
The meal was excellent and head chef Mrs April Fletcher was complimented by the High Sheriff Hugh Burnett and the Mayor Councillorr Garry Peltzer Dunn.
The club was opened many years ago by Elsie and Doris Walters, the music hall stars known as Gert and Daisy and noted for their monologues.
During lunch my fellow councillor Leslie Hamilton pointed out that my father had been on the committee back in 1958.
