A visit today to Balfour Junior School’s Blue Peter Bring and Buy sale from pop duo Same Difference brought smiles all round and helped raise money for Save the Children.
The event organised by pupils in class 5S saw over 200 children and parents pack out the school hall to buy books, toys and cakes in aid of the latest Blue Peter appeal.
Sarah and Sean, the brother and sister combo who took last year’s X Factor by storm, much to Simon Cowell’s displeasure, made their entrance to the delighted cheers of the pupils. Wearing their trademark 50s-inspired outfits, they helped sell items in the sale and chatted to the excited children.
Taking time out from their promotional work for their new single, We R One, they signed lots of autographs – on the usual paper but also on balloons and even a pogo stick!
Commenting on the sale organised primarily by pupils Grace, Penny and Radia, Sarah said: “We are really proud of them but by coming along, everyone has dug deep and raised loads of money for the appeal.”
Headteacher, Tony Jones, said: “It’s a pleasure to have Same Difference at our school but the main aim of today is to help publicise and raise money for the Blue Peter Appeal.”
In addition to the fundraising sale and the celebrity visitors, a BBC camera crew were also there to film the event for a future edition of Blue Peter.
Sarah from Same Difference has always spoken out against bullying in school and her visit comes on the back of Balfour Junior School making headlines with their anti-bullying week event two weeks ago. For this, the whole school took part in a potentially record-breaking massage session. Based on their pioneering work on positive contact, the school aims through the programme to relieve stress, increase pupil confidence and minimise disagreements both in class and in the playground.
