Recent burglaries in Preston Park and Hollingdean have lead local police to target residents with crime prevention advice.
So far in this recent spate of burglaries, houses in Southdown Avenue and Waldegrave Road as well as three in Hollingdean have been broken into.
The burglaries all took place in the early evening, between 5.30 and 7.30. Police suspect that this is due to those involved realising that the houses were unoccupied at this time because the homes were in darkness.
Police advise that people use timer switches on lights to give an empty property the look of a house with people at home.
Anyone with concerns or who sees anything suspicious should contact the police. For further general advice about crime prevention during dark evenings however, visit the Sussex Police Operation Twilight webpage.
