An artist has raised £500 for charity after auctioning off a sculpture of his dead father’s face.
Jamie McCartney, who is based at JAG Gallery on Madeira Drive, Brighton, auctioned off the death mask as part of the Men Only exhibition which raised money for prostate cancer charity Everyman.
Mr McCartney created the sculpture, called After, by taking a cast of his dead father’s face and then setting it in jet-black bitumen.
The auction, held in London’s Liberty store, included pieces from artists such as Damien Hirst, Sir Peter Blake and Martin Parr.
The controversial artist said: "All my work is emotionally charged. I’d never done anything like this before, but I wanted to address how I was feeling after my father’s death and reflect it in my art."
