Another bookies looks like opening at The Grenadier in Hangleton.
William Hill is expected to open a branch in part of the shop left vacant in West Way when the Co-op closed. Coral, the bookmaker, has a branch just round the corner in The Parade in Hangleton Road, next to The Grenadier pub.
The Co-op shop was left empty after the merger with Alldays. There was already an Alldays branch in The Parade, Hangleton Road, giving the Co-op two stores within 100 yards of each other.
The boarded up West Way store has been converted into two smaller shops. While one of the new units is expected to be occupied by William Hill, the other looks like being let to a budget furniture store.
The rent for each shop - between the Mandarin Garden Chinese takeaway and Nick Pannett's pet shop Pet Pet Pet - is expected to be more than £20,000 a year.
