The ‘King of Motown’ has been announced as an act at Sussex’s biggest jazz festival.

Smokey Robinson will perform at next summer’s Love Supreme which returns to Glynde Place near Lewes from July 4 to 6.

Robinson is a Grammy winner who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

This will be his first performance in the UK in more than 15 years.

Robinson is considered one of the most influential figures in music history.

He was frontman and songwriter for Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, a group responsible for a raft of timeless hit songs including Tears of a Clown, I Second That Emotion, Tracks Of My Tears and You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me.

In October, Maxwell was announced was the first headliner of Love Supereme.

He released numerous hit songs as a solo artist such as Being With You and Cruisin’ and during a career that has spanned over six decades has also written countless hits for other artists including the Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Mary Wells to name a few.
